Can you suggest any reading material that gives the history of belly dance?
~ History Lover
Dear History Lover,
Of course I can! There are a great many books that I have in my library that pretain to belly dance and its history. Here is a short list of books that are still in publication and fairly easy to find.
"Looking for Little Egypt" by Donna Carlton
"The Belly Dance Book: Rediscovering the Oldest Dance" by Tazz Richards
"Serpent of the Nile: Women and Dance of the Arab World" by Wendy Buonaventura
"The Tribal Bible" by Kajira Djoumahna
"A Trade Like Any Other" Female Singers and Dancers in Egypt" by Karin Van Nieuwkerk
There also several dance publications that focused on belly dance, the ones that I subscribe to are:
"Habibi" and "Zaghareet" both great and informative magazines
When you finish all of these, I'll recommend more!!!!
